CURATED BY VIRGINIA DAMTSA OF VIRGINIAVISUALARTS
Marie Jose Gallery is excited to unveil "Carrying my Landscapes" exhibition, curated by Virginia Damtsa of VirginiaVisualArts. Drawing inspiration from the celebrated American Abstract expressionist artist Joan Mitchell, who titled her paintings "I carry my Landscapes," this exhibition brings together the works of 12 International emerging artists. Each artist offers a unique perspective, reflecting their philosophical and metaphorical interpretations of the theme.
"Carrying my Landscapes" draws from the rich artistic heritage of Joan Mitchell, renowned for her bold and evocative abstract creations. This exhibition serves as a unifying platform for an array of diverse artists, each channelling their individual viewpoints on landscapes, ecology, philosophy, urban living, and the intricate connections between humanity and the environment.
The exhibition's culmination promises an enthralling performance by acclaimed Italian conceptual artist You-Matteo Mandelli. In a nod to the spirit of Lucio Fontana, Mandelli's performance reimagines artistic exploration as he carves through screens, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.
Participating artists infuse their work with fresh perspectives, each lending a distinct voice to the theme:
Allan Martin (Scotland): Transports viewers to enigmatic realms through haunting dark woods.
Angus Vasili (Greece): Offers tranquil horizons and escape in serene artworks.
Atau Hamos (Berlin): Captures urban energy with vibrant artwork.
Keri Rosebraugh (USA): Explores nature and ecosystems to emphasize preservation.
Romelle (USA/Mexico): Infuses vibrant color palettes inspired by her Mexican residence.
Michelle Sayour (Canada): Invites contemplation through canvas-carved life philosophies.
Malgosia Stepnik (Poland): Powerful, obsessive and dynamic paintings evoke visceral organs and nature.
Simon Williams (UK): Echoes the city's heartbeat through gestural and dynamic brushstrokes.
Joost Vandebrugh (Denmark): Advocates Earth's significance and beauty through photo emulsion transfer on handmade paper cards.
Vanessa Fristedt (Sweeden): As an important observer and participant of the contemporary London scene, her recent photograph has mythological references.
Naila Hazell (Azerbaijan): Her figurative paintings depict intimate human relationships.
Minju Kim (Korea): Surreal figurative paintings that explore the human body whilst delving in the realms of desire, life and death.
"Carrying my Landscapes" invites visitors to explore the interplay between art and nature, philosophy and urbanism, all through the captivating lenses of these emerging artists. The exhibition celebrates diverse perspectives, creative ingenuity, and the transformative power of art.
